University of Taipei (UT; Chinese: 臺北市立大學; pinyin: Táiběi Shìlì Dàxué) is an institution of higher education in Taipei, Taiwan. It has two campuses in Taipei metropolitan area and is the only university under the administration of Taipei City Government.[1]
History
The University of Taipei is established in August 2013 by the merger of Taipei Municipal University of Education (TMUE) and Taipei Physical Education College (TPEC). With these two institutions the university can trace its roots to the founding of Zhishanyen College by the Japanese Colonial Government in 1895. Since TMUE and TPEC were the only two schools of higher education under the administration of Taipei City, there have been on going talks on the merger of two schools during the years leading in to 2012, when both schools agreed the merger.[2]
Academics
Prior to the merger, TMUE have 4,800 students enrolled and TPEC 2,700. Today roughly 7,500 students are enrolled in University of Taipei. The university currently consists of four colleges:
- College of Arts and Humanities
- College of Education
- College of Science
- College of Sports and Physical Education
Transportation
The Zhongzheng Campus is accessible within walking distance South from NTU Hospital Station of the Taipei Metro. The Songshan Campus is accessible East from Shipai Station of the Taipei Metro.
