The University of Guayaquil (Spanish: Universidad de Guayaquil), known colloquially as the Estatal (i.e., "State", in the same sense as, for example, a school such as "Iowa State" would simply be called "State" by local students), is a public university located in Guayaquil, Guayas Province, Ecuador. It is the oldest university in the city and has the largest student body. It operates six extension universities throughout the country.[citation needed]
