The Universidad de Montevideo (in English: University of Montevideo) is a private university located in Montevideo, Uruguay. It opened in 1986, and obtained the right to be legally named a university in 1997.

Mission

"The Universidad de Montevideo (UM) is a non-profit organization committed to academic excellence, research, technological innovation and social responsibility. Its main objective is to promote a culture of work and service through excellence in all academic activities, grounding its intellectual endeavors on man’s quest for truth.

"The Universidad de Montevideo maintains links with European and American Universities in order to enrich the quality of its academic programs, through bilateral co-operation agreements encouraging student and faculty exchange programs and advocating inter-institutional projects, publications and research. It is nationally and internationally respected, and its students are in demand by employers because of the high quality of its teaching. It has had close connections with industry, the public and voluntary sectors since its inception.

"The Universidad de Montevideo requested that the Roman Catholic Prelature of Opus Dei provide appropriate spiritual guidance with no distinction of creed, in order to instill the virtues required for a functioning society."[1]

International Office

The UM International Office strives to encourage vision and quality in the university's international activity by disseminating information on international opportunities, promoting the university's courses abroad, providing support to international students on campus and developing an international outlook among students and staff.

It is responsible for developing a coherent corporate strategy to promote Universidad de Montevideo’s international relations, global profile, and international competitiveness. It complements the academic mission of the University by providing the services and programs necessary to facilitate international education.[2]
