Unipol Gruppo Finanziario S.p.A. is an Italian financial services holding operating in the insurance and banking fields, in which ranks as the country's fourth-largest firm.[2]
The insurances of the holding are UnipolSai Assicurazioni, Linear, Linear Life and UniSalute; the banks are Unipol Banca and Banca Sai.
Based in Bologna, the company was founded in 1962 as a cooperative provider of non-life insurance. After a failed takeover bid for Banca Nazionale del Lavoro in 2005,[3] Unipol saw its CEO Giovanni Consorte resign in the midst of the bancopoli scandal. Consorte was later convicted for insider trading.[4] Under Consorte's replacements Pierluigi Stefanini and Carlo Salvatori, the company underwent extensive restructuring in 2007.
Its headquarters is located in the Unipol Tower, Bologna.
