Umkumiute, Alaska

Umkumiute[1] is a small unincorporated community on Nelson Island in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, 3 miles (4.8 km) from Toksook Bay. It is located in the Bethel census area.

History

This region was inhabited by the Yupik Eskimos for thousands of years. During the 1950s it was founded as a community. It was later annexed by Toksook bay and is now a neighborhood of Toksook bay city.

Population

Estimated around 100 it is no longer possible to get an accurate count of the population because this community is now a neighborhood of Toksook bay. and the Census Bureau normally does not do a census for individual neighborhoods.
