Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a private university in Uganda. The main campus is in Nkozi, a small town, approximately 84 kilometres (52 mi), by road, west of Kampala, the capital and largest city in Uganda, on the Kampala-Masaka Highway.[1] The coordinates of the university campus are 00 00 18N, 32 00 54E (Latitude: 0.0050; Longitude: 32.0150).[2]

History

The university was established in October 1993 with 84 students and two academic departments: the Institute of Ethics & Development Studies and the Faculty of Business Administration & Management.[3] Today, the university consists of seven faculties, one institute, four centers, five departments and two schools. As of October 2010, total student enrollment is in excess of 4,600. Of these, about 1,200 students are residential, while nearly 3,700 students are enrolled in UMU's distance learning programs. The number of staff members is over 300.[4]
