Critical Reception

The film received mixed - negative reviews from critics.

Way2movies rated 2.25/5 stated oncludes the film has nothing new as it carries the same old theme, if the director could have chosen a whole new scripts it would have helped him out. Udhayan is a neat entertainer with same old stuff.[5]Behind woods rated 1.5/5 stated Overused masala recipe, only for time-pass entertainment lovers.[6]Nowrunning.com rated 1.5/5 stated that "Udhayan abides to enhance Arulnidhi's career and make him a bankable star. The viewer has nothing to take back with him, though."[7] Indiaglitz states "On the whole, 'Udhayan' is trendy and stylish. Chaplin has laced commercial elements in a good mix. However, a predictable story with a 'nothing new to offer' feel mars the flow."[8]
