UV Express

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

UV Express is a public transport license to operate in the Philippines following the franchisee model.[1]

Company and Routes

UV Express follows the franchisee model and has more than 120 services in the Philippines including the NCR (National Capital region).[2] The country's Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board serves as the owner of the franchise.

UV Express vans are air conditioned, usually seat 14 passengers and charge 2 Philippine pesos per kilometer (as of 2013).[3] They have their own passenger terminals in Manila, Makati (Ayala center),[4] Cubao (North avenue) and similar busy places.[5]

Typically, a franchisee costs 180,000 pesos (as of 2011).[6][7] In the interest of public safety, the LTFRB had passed an order (LTFRB Memorandum Circular No. 2012-0117 and 2012-030) to phase out older UV express vans and taxis, however, this was petitioned by transport unions and operator groups.[8]

The name UV stands for "Utility Vehicle".[9] It is also a pun for Uwi na (Tagalog : Let us go home)
