UNTV Cup is a charity basketball league on Philippine TV. It is the first charity game dedicated for public servants and celebrities in the Philippines.[1] The game was started on July 29, 2013 coinciding the 9th Anniversary Celebration of UNTV.[2]

Its first season was rolled at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines.[3] Atoy Co serves as the commissioner of the basketball league. Following the success of its first season game, UNTV Cup season two will be opened on February 11, 2014 at the same venue with newly added public service booths of each participating teams/government agencies.

UNTV Cup is an original concept by Daniel Razon[4] tagged as Mr. Public Service[5] and materialized by UNTV widely known as public service television station[6] in the Philippines.


Season One

UNTV Cup started its first season in its ceremonial toss last July 29, 2013 and it is expected to end by January, 2014 but it was early ended on November 5 of the same year. The project is aimed to promote unity, camaraderie and physical fitness among government officials in the country.

  • Michael Flores and Brando Legaspi for the AFP Cavaliers team
  • Kier Legaspi and Zoren Legaspi join team PhilHealth Advocates team
  • Eric Fructuoso and Jao Mapa playing for team DOJ Hunters team
  • Allen Dizon and Emilio Garcia for the MMDA Equalizers team
  • Ervic Vijandre and Jay Manalo play the Congress/LGU Legislators team
  • Onyok Velasco and Jordan Herrera play for PNP Hinirangs
  • Jon Hall and James Blanco for the Judiciary Cagers

Personalities Invited

Public official who is invited to join is boxing legend and Sarangani congressman Manny Pacquiao[8] to play for Congress/LGU Legislators team.

Most Valuable Player

It was PO2 Allan Omiping who awarded as the MVP (Philippine National Police (PNP) team) during the first season of UNTV Cup tagged as The Sniper for his excellent performance during the game.

Beneficiaries

Every team represents their choice of charity institution. The champion will win one million pesos and first runner-up team will win five hundred thousand pesos and will be given to their charity institution chosen by the winning teams.[18] Total winning prize is 1.5 million in Philippine peso[19] courtesy of Kuya Daniel Razon, the CEO and Chairman of Breakthrough and Milestones Production International (BMPI).[20]

Season Two

UNTV Cup season two will start its ceremonial toss on February 11, 2014 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City with additional three (3) teams to come up with a total of ten teams.[21] Mr. Ed Cordero will serve as its deputy commissioner during the course of UNTV Cup season two.

UNTV Cup season 2 kick off celebration was held at One Esplanade in Pasay City last January 14, 2014. Opening game will be on February 11, 2014 at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines. Every game schedule, the teams will have its own Public Service Booth during the game to give and offer public services to attendees/viewers as well as to the public. Respective teams will have its representatives to cater these public services on the game venue.

  • Arm Forces of the Philippines (AFP Cavaliers)
  • Congress of the Philippines (Congress Legislators)
  • Department of Justice (DOJ Hunters)
  • Local Government Unit (LGU Vanguards)
  • Malacañang Palace (Malacanang Patriots)
  • Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA Black Wolves)
  • Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth Advocates)
  • Philippine Judiciary
  • Philippine National Police (PNP Responders)
  • Senate of the Philippines (Senate Defenders)

Malacañang and Senate are the newest additional teams, while Congress-LGU team were separated into two groups, making a total of ten teams for the UNTV Cup season two.
