UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held on March 15, 2014 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.[1]

Background

A Light Heavyweight Championship bout between the current champion Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira, briefly linked as the event headliner at UFC 169,[2] and UFC 170[3] was expected to headline this event.[4] However, the fight was postponed yet again.[5]

A Welterweight Championship bout between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler for the vacant UFC Welterweight Championship Title will now headline the event.[6]

Julianna Pena was expected to face Jessica Andrade at this event. However, Pena pulled out of the bout citing a knee injury and was replaced by Raquel Pennington.[7]

Will Campuzano was expected to face Darrell Montague at this event. However, Montague was forced to pull out of the bout citing and injury and as replaced by Justin Scoggins.[8]

Thiago Silva was expected to face Ovince St. Preux at this event. However, Silva was removed from the bout due to police apprehension and multiple counts of aggravated assault, which led to his subsequent release from the promotion.[9] He was replaced by Nikita Krylov.[10]
