The Turceni Power Station is Romania's largest electricity producer and one of the largest thermal power plants in Europe having 7 identical groups of 330 MW each thus totalling an installed capacity of 2,310 MW.

It uses coal from Jilţ Coal Mine and Tehomir underground mine.[1]

The power plant is situated in Gorj County (South-Western Romania), on the banks of the Jiu River, half way between the cities of Craiova and Târgu Jiu.

The powerplant's four smokestacks are 280 meters tall.
