Tsubame (燕市 Tsubame-shi) is a city located in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on March 31, 1954.
As of April 30, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 83,176 and a population density of 750.14 persons per km². The total area is 110.88 km².
Municipal Timeline
- March 31, 1954 - The city of Tsubame was founded by merging with 4 towns and villages.
- March 20, 2006 - Tsubame absorbed the towns of Bunsui and Yoshida (both from Nishikanbara District) to create the new and expanded city of Tsubame.
Government
The current mayor is Kiyoshi Kobayashi, the last mayor of the town of Bunsui.
