Tsakane is a township south of Brakpan close to two other townships KwaThema and Duduza on the East Rand, Gauteng, South Africa. Nickname "E-Mashona".

History

Tsakane was founded in the early 1960s by Robert Mafemana Thuketana when native people living close to Brakpan were moved to a new designated area. The previous residential area is fondly known as "Old Location" by Tsakane residents. The township has grown since then to a point where it is difficult to tell where Tsakane ends and where Duduza and KwaThema begin. Tsakane has sub townships which fall under it, Geluksdal being one and Langaville being the other it has grown that now there is a section closer to ratanda being constracted (Thubelitsha). Tsakane hosts a community radio station called ek fm (103.6) which broadcasts to Tsakane, Geluksdal, Langaville, Duduza, Kwa-Thema, katlehong, Thokoza, vosloorus, Brakpan, Springs and partly: Boksburg, Benoni, Wattville and Alra Park for now. The radio station, the mall and lately the stadium has become some of the prominent landmarks of the area and its recent history. When Tsakane was formed Thembu street was one of the first streets linked with the main streets of Tsakane Sotho and street Ndabezitha this is the central origin part of Tsakane.

Attractions

Tsakane has (ekhaya shopping center) near Kwa thema and Duduza rank is also growing very fast. With a new shopping center being constructed at ext 19 and more petrol stations being added Tsakane is really huge and still growing fast. Tsakane also has a hospital (Pholosong hospital) which caters for Geluksdal Duduza and Kwa thema. With countless professional mini hospitals and clinics, Libraries and parks not forgetting a multi purpose center (farranani), and recently a fire station.

Entertainment

Tsakane has from the best chilling places to the restaurants. Theres Chillas pub A2A (afrika 2 afrika) Dinangwe pub and grill Q bar and Welcomes place just to name a few well known chilling spots.

Businesses

well know artists and sign writer Cecil Thuketana (son of the Founder and councilor of Tsakane Mr Robert Thuketana ) is one of the well known artist all over the east rand. the Thuketana's has recently started a graphics company ( Anatek2 services ) providing everything from t-shirt printing to vehicle wrapping etc anatekgraphics.wozaonline.co.za.

VW scrapyard which is owned by 'Stitch' well known business man and entrepreneur.

Recently dbk has opened a company which provides vehicle repair with professional equipment.
