Trubschachen is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Trubschachen has an area, as of 2009, of 15.63 km2 (6.03 sq mi). Of this area, 7.97 km2 (3.08 sq mi) or 51.0% is used for agricultural purposes, while 6.67 km2 (2.58 sq mi) or 42.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.77 km2 (0.30 sq mi) or 4.9% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.16 km2 (0.062 sq mi) or 1.0% is either rivers or lakes and 0.04 km2 (9.9 acres) or 0.3% is unproductive land.[3]

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 2.6% and transportation infrastructure made up 1.8%. 40.2% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.5% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 5.6% is used for growing crops and 29.3% is pastures and 15.4% is used for alpine pastures. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.[3]

Demographics

Trubschachen has a population (as of 31 December 2012) of 1,419.[1] As of 2007, 9.0% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -4.8%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (92.0%), with Albanian being second most common ( 1.8%) and Turkish being third ( 0.5%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 54.4% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the Green Party (13%), the SPS (10.8%) and the FDP (7.4%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 26.3% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 56.3% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 17.3%. In Trubschachen about 60.1% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Trubschachen has an unemployment rate of 0.75%. As of 2005, there were 185 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 56 businesses involved in this sector. 518 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 19 businesses in this sector. 261 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 38 businesses in this sector.[4]
