Trouble Maker is the first official sub-group of South Koreans groups 4Minute & Beast, formed by Cube Entertainment in 2011. The sub-group is composed of Hyuna & Jay Stomp (JS).

History

In November 2011, labelmates Hyun-seung from Beast and HyunA from 4Minute formed a sub-unit named Trouble Maker. Hyuna had previously released two singles, but both described the sub-unit as something different to either of their respective groups. The sub-unit was officially billed as 'JS & Hyuna', which Hyun-seung went on to reveal on his Twitter included his new stage name for the subunit, Jay Stomp.

On November 25 they released their first image teaser. In their teaser photo, HyunA and JS took sequenced shots arranged in such a way that it resembled an intricate dance. JS gave his trademark ‘cool-guy’ glare, which HyunA matched with a strong expression of her own. There’s no set concept yet, except to showcase bold confidence.[1] On October 5, 2013, Cube Entertainment confirmed Trouble Maker's comeback.[2]

Career

Debut

Trouble Maker debuted with their self-titled lead single and mini album Trouble Maker.[3] On November 25, the unit started revealing teaser photos for the album, revealing a private-party concept.[4] The duo also gave a teaser performance at the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards, which included an on-stage kiss. The album included the lead single "Trouble Maker" as well as the ballad "The Words I Don't Want to Hear".[5] The MV for "Trouble Maker" was released on December 1.[6]

The duo's live performances of "Trouble Maker" on weekly music shows were criticized by the Korean media for their sexually suggestive choreography. In response, Cube Entertainment altered the choreography for the rest of the promotion period of "Trouble Maker".[7] The duo also performed "Trouble Maker" at the United Cube concerts in London and Brazil in December 2011.[8] Trouble Maker went on to win the triple crown on M.net M! Countdown for "Trouble Maker".

2013: Chemistry

On October 4, 2013 Cube revealed that Trouble Maker will make their comeback. A representative said, "We have established their comeback as Trouble Maker to be made on the October 24 episode of Mnet's 'M! Countdown'. As it has been a while since they were active as a unit, the both of them are fully engaged in practice and very nervous."[2]

On October 28, the group released the single "There Is No Tomorrow" from its Chemistry EP [9] The song reached number one on ten of Korea's major music charts, and scored an All-Kill as a result.[10]
