The Varna trolleybus system (Bulgarian: Варна Тролейбусен транспорт) forms part of the public transport network of the Black Sea city and municipality of Varna, the third most populous city in Bulgaria.

Opened in January 1986, the system has waxed and waned in size over time. As of 2013, it was made up of three routes.

Services

The Varna trolleybus lines as of 2013 are:[1]

  • 82 Varna railway stationVladislau Varnesi Park – Vladislav Varnenchik
  • 83 Varna railway station – Mladost – main bus depot – TIS North (line runs from Monday through Friday)
  • 88 Asparuhovo – Mladost – main bus depot – Vladislav Varnenchik

There were several more lines in the past which were shut down - 81, 82A, 84, 85, 86, 86A, 87.

Plans remain for line 86 to reopen with a new route from Pochivka to Asparuhovo however parts of the overhead wires were taken down.

Fleet

As of 2012, the Varna trolleybus fleet had 40 trolleybuses:

  • Škoda 14Tr - 31 units;
  • Škoda 15Tr - 9 units.

Former fleet

  • Dac- Chavdar - 36 units.

Varna purchased 30 brand new trolleybuses Skoda with expected delivery starting June 2014.
