Biography

Early life

Rees-Jones graduated from Dartmouth College and studied law at Southern Methodist University, where he received his J.D.^[2] After working as a bankruptcy attorney in Dallas and practicing oil and gas reorganization law with Thompson & Knight, Rees-Jones began pursuing oil and gas investments. He formed Chief Oil & Gas in 1994 and is alleged to have made a series of very savvy investments over the next 16 years, particularly in shale.^{[citation needed]}

Philanthropy

Rees-Jones has emerged as a large donor to the Republican Party and gave $1 million to American Crossroads in 2010.^[3] Rees-Jones also made a large donation to Parkland Memorial Hospital's campaign for its new facility.

In 2006, Trevor Rees-Jones and his wife founded The Rees-Jones Foundation, a private foundation established primarily to benefit the people of North Texas. The Foundation provides support and funding for programs that help improve the quality of life for the underserved people of North Texas.

  • Salvation Army-DFW Metroplex Command - $100,000 - Funding for the Casa Youth Emergency Shelter.^[7]
  • International Justice Mission - $250,000 - Funding for operations in India to rescue people from modern day slavery.^[8]
  • Boy Scouts of America's Circle Ten Council - $25 million - Includes $20 million for the creation of an endowment for the Circle Ten Council ScoutReach program, which will extend the scouting experience to underserved communities, and $5 million to refurbish camps in North Texas.^[9][10]
  • Central Dallas Ministries - $750,000 - Funding towards a capital campaign to build the Center of Hope, which will provide a comprehensive array of programs and services to the low-income community.^[11][12]
  • SPCA of Texas - $750,000 - Funding for A Program to Stop Puppy Mills in Texas, which investigates and facilitates prosecution of perpetrators of animal cruelty.^[13]
  • Dallas Museum of Nature and Science - $15 million - For the capital campaign to build the museum.^[14][15]
  • Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center - $5 million - For the capital campaign to build a new facility.^[16]
