Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) is a private airline based in Ibrahim Nasir International Airport and is the oldest air transfer operator operating in the Maldives. It operates floatplanes to resort islands. In 2013 Both Maldivian Air Taxi and Trans Maldivian Airways were acquired by Blackstone and named the new company TRANS MALDIVIAN AIRWAYS (TMA). TMA now operates 44 Twin Otters including 3 Brand new 400 series.

History

Originally called Hummingbird Island Helicopters, TMA is the oldest and, in many ways, the most experienced Air transfer operator in the Maldives. It pioneered the use of aircraft to transport tourists to island based resorts. In doing so, it has made a significant contribution to the development of tourism to the Maldives, which in turn has resulted in major benefits to the national economy.

Founded in 1989, the company operated a strictly helicopter fleet of aircraft until the introduction of the first seaplanes in 1997. The transition to a 'seaplane-only' fleet of aircraft was completed in January 1999. Maldivian Air Taxi founded in 1993 .

In 2013 both Maldivian Air Taxi and Trans Maldivian Airways are acquired by Blackstone and operates the sea plane service under the name TRANS MALDIVIAN AIRWAYS. TMA now operates 44 Twin Otters, three of them are brand new DHC-6-400 type
