Townsville Grammar School is an independent, co-educational, day, International Baccalaureate and boarding school, located in Townsville, Queensland, Australia.

Established in 1888, it is the oldest co-educational school on the Australian mainland.^{[citation needed]} It is the most northern member of the Grammar school system in Australia.^{[citation needed]} During World War II the school was acquired by the Royal Australian Air Force for use as barracks accommodation for the No. 3 Fighter Sector RAAF. Townsville Grammar is also well known amongst Townsville for its rivalry in the cultural, sporting and academic fields against The Cathedral School, Townsville

School badge

The School Badge was designed in 1902 by a Sydney architect. The background represents the Southern Cross, with the Three Turrets set on the Rock of Christianity, surrounded by the sea of Plenty. The central turret symbolises spiritual values, while the two side turrets represent intellectual and sporting values.

The Latin text on the badge reads "Bonus intra melior exi", literally "Come in good, go out better".

Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational school from Pre-Prep - Year 12, with boarding from Year 7, located in Townsville in Queensland, Australia. The School has two campuses, with Pre-Prep - Year 6 in Annandale and Years 7 - 12 in North Ward.

Townsville Grammar School is a school where young people, irrespective of their innate abilities, can achieve their personal best. The School motto Bonus Intra Melior Exi - to "come in good and go out better" is a guiding philosophy in our approach to the academic, sporting, cultural and character development of all young Grammarians who pass through the School. The School enjoys a remarkable culture of achievement and this is reflected in its well deserved pre-eminent status as an educational institution in North Queensland.

Students are encouraged to develop and demonstrate self-discipline in behaviour, dress and manner as well as worthy personal qualities, notably integrity, decency, responsibility, self-respect, honesty and industry. Every student is expected to do his or her best and there is a supportive and caring ethos in which every student is given individual attention and support.

Headmasters

P. F. Rowland is as of 2011 the longest serving headmaster, holding his position for 34 years. During his time,"Boss" Rowland taught the School's two Rhodes Scholars, Chester Parker and George Hall.

Campuses

Annandale

The Annandale campus of TGS is commonly known as the "Townsville Grammar Junior School", and teaches from pre-preparatory (for children turning 4 before 30 June) to grade 6. This campus opened in 1997.

North Ward

The North Ward campus is situated in the seaside suburb of North Ward in Townsville. It comprises the Middle School (grades 7-9) and Senior School (grades 10-12).

The four sporting houses are named after former headmasters.

Whight - Purple colour
