Towner Railway
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Towner Railway, under lease from the Colorado, Kansas, and Pacific Railway Company by the Victoria and Southern Railway (V&S), was purchased by the Colorado Department of Transportation in October 2011. The track consists of 122 miles of a former Union Pacific line east from interchanges with Union Pacific and BNSF at North Avondale Junction to Towner, Colorado, where it interchanges with the Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad. V&S had applied to abandon the line from North Avondale Junction to Eads, and the Government of Colorado opted to purchase the line to keep the right-of-way available for rail use.[1]
