Total Fitness is a chain of health clubs in the UK, operated by Total Fitness UK Limited.

History

Total Fitness was established by Kwik Save founder Albert Gubay in 1993 on the Isle of Man.[1] The first Total Fitness opened in Walkden in 1998. It was sold to the private equity arm of Legal & General in December 2004 for £80 million[1] (€120 million[2]).

Description

As of 2008, Total Fitness employed around 1,000 staff and around 180,000 members.[1] As of 2011, its 24 clubs are concentrated in northern England, with other locations in Wrexham, Wales, and in Dublin, Ireland.[3] Membership is mid-priced, and the clubs are relatively large.[citation needed] Membership at any Total Fitness club allows access to any other Total Fitness club.[3]
