Tony William Negus, APM, is the current Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police (AFP), being sworn in on 7 September 2009 for a five-year term. [1]

He is the sixth Commissioner of the AFP [2] and the second appointed from within the AFP[3]

Education

Tony Negus holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Administration, and a Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership. At Harvard University he has completed the Executive Leadership Programme. [4][5]

Interests

Tony Negus' interests are rugby league and motor vehicles.[1]

Career

Tony Negus started his law enforcement career in traffic operations [1][6] in Canberra in 1982,[5] and later as a detective in the Australian Capital Territory.[1] He has worked in community policing, federal investigations, human resources, and protection.[4]

He has worked in national operations in Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra.[1]

In June 2005 Tony Negus was awarded the Australian Police Medal (APM).[4][5][7]

In July 2006 he was appointed National Manager of Human Resources, with responsibility for Learning and Development, Professional Standards, and People Strategies.[5]

Prior to his appointment as Commissioner of the AFP he had been Deputy Commissioner Operations since October 2007,[4] where he had responsibility for border operations, economic and special operations, forensics and data centres, high technology crime operations, internal liaison networks, and international deployments.[4][5]
