Tony Fan-Cheong Chan (Chinese: 陳繁昌) is a Hong Kong-born[1] mathematician and President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since 1 September 2009.
He succeeded Chu Ching-wu who retired from HKUST in August 2009.<ref name="hkust_press_20090330>"HKUST Announces Appointment of Prof. Tony Chan as Next President".</ref>
Tony Chan worked at UCLA and at the National Science Foundation.[2] He is a co-founder of the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics, an NSF-funded institute at UCLA. He has been listed as an ISI Highly Cited Author in Mathematics by the ISI Web of Knowledge, Thomson Scientific Company.[3] He also sits on the selection committee for the Mathematics award, given under the auspices of the Shaw Prize.

Early life
Born in Hong Kong, Chan attended Salesian English School and Queen's College in Hong Kong.[1]
