Tom Zakrajsek (born December 10, 1963) is an American figure skating coach and former competitive skater. As a skater, he competed as a senior on the national level. He coaches at the Broadmoor Skating Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Skating career

Zakrajsek began skating at age 7, but stopped and only came back to the sport three years later. He competed mostly in single skating. He won the junior men's title at the 1979 Eastern Great Lakes Regional Championship and the senior men's title at the 1986 Southwestern Regional Championship.[1] He competed at the U.S. Nationals six times. He also competed once in senior pair skating with Sheila Nobles at 1985 Nationals.[1] After retiring from competition, he toured with Disney on Ice.[2]

Coaching career

Zakrajsek began coaching in 1991 in Saint Joseph, Missouri,[2] and later moved to the Broadmoor Skating Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado.[2]

He currently coaches 2009 U.S. national silver medalist Brandon Mroz, 2013 U.S. national champion Max Aaron[3] and Agnes Zawadzki, 2010 World Junior silver medalist. He coached her from 2008 to 2011[4] and then again from October 2013.[5] His former students include:

Zakrajsek was named the 2009 PSA Coach of the Year.[12] He was nominated for the award in 2011.[13]

Personal life

Zakrajsek has a Master's degree in science.[14] He has two sisters and a brother.[1] His siblings and parents all skate recreationally.[1] His wife, Susan, is a teacher; they have a daughter, Madison, and a son, Dylan, who is two years younger.[1]
