Toby Stavisky (née Toby Ann Goldhaar)[1] represents the 16th district in the New York State Senate which comprises the Queens neighborhoods of Bay Terrace, Bayside, Beechhurst, Clearview Gardens, Flushing, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Hillcrest, Elmhurst, Electchester, Pomonok, Queensboro Hill, Whitestone, Woodside, Mitchell Linden, Fresh Meadows, and Oakland Gardens.

Stavisky was born and raised on Manhattan's Upper West Side. She graduated from Bronx High School of Science and Syracuse University,[1] later taking post-graduate courses at Hunter and Queens Colleges. After working for an insurance company in the actuarial department, Stavisky was a Social Studies teacher in New York City, and served as a district manager in Queens for the Census. She was elected to the New York State Senate in 1999, and has been re-elected seven times.[1]

Personal life

Stavisky was married to Dr. Leonard P. Stavisky, a former member of the New York State Assembly from 1966 until 1983, and of the New York State Senate from 1983 until his death in 1999. She resides in Whitestone, Queens, New York; her son, Evan M. Stavisky, is a top political consultant (for The Parkside Group) as well as a local district leader.[1]
