Titilagarh (also known as Titlagarh) is a town and a notified area committee in Bolangir district in the Indian state of Odisha.

Geography

Titilagarh is located at 20°18′N 83°09′E / 20.3°N 83.15°E / 20.3; 83.15.[1] It has an average elevation of 215 metres (705 feet). It was once considered the Hottest place in India (Leaving aside the Thar desert.) It is famous for its rising temperature, particularly in summer. - Chandra

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Titilagarh had a population of 27,756. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Titilagarh has an average literacy rate of 67%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 57%. In Titilagarh, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Entertainment

From entertainment point of view, there are two parks namely NAC park and Government park near Lord Shiva Temple.One can also enjoy the hill top view of Titilagarh from Kumhada Pahad. There is a cinema hall near the Railway station in Titilagarh.

There used to be 2 cinema halls namely Jain talkies and Paradise/Kailash talkies. Now only Kailash talkies is there. Also there used to be 2 parks NAC park and Gopabandhu park. The new addition is the Government park near Lord Shiva Temple.

  • Mahashivaratri Mela is organised during the Mahashivaratri festival every year near Kumhada Pahad for seven days. People gathered from all over Odisha to enjoy this.
  • Nuakhai considered to be the main cultural festival at Titlagarh.
  • Rathayatra is organised every year in the name of Lord Jagannath.
  • Ganpati Puja and Durga Puja is organised every year in many places in the town with orchestra,Kalakunja,Prasad distribution.
  • Ghantasuni yatra during Dushera at town is eye catching.

Titilagarh has been a pioneer in the athletics practices in Odisha and has produced state champions in the athletics events for years together. The events in which the athletes from Titlagarh maintained the state records are javeline, putting the shots etc. Rabindra Narayan Singhdeo Indoor Badminton Stadium, Near Kachery Line, Titilagarh {Organised an All India Badminton Tournament at Titilagarh,Participate in the all over state in this tournament (Visakhapatnam, Bagalore, Karnatak, Jharkhand, Chhatishgarh, Pune, Ranchi, Kolkata and also Odisha.

Beside the Indoor Stadium there are many play-grounds for out door games i.e. High School Field,College Field,City School Field,Town Field. Cricket and Football happen to be the most popular outdoor games.Many talents who has played in the Ranji Trophy nets and few are to name as Mr.Sandip Tripathy(Tulu),Mr.Sanjay Behera and they still an active parts of cricket events all over Western Odisha. There is a high level of fitness awareness among the people in Titlagarh; a Pool of the fitness clubs exists in Titilagarh: Saheed Gymnasium founded by Mr. Suryamani Padhi in 1968,Hanuman Club near Daily market and more.

Picnic spots

There are several picnic spots near Titilagarh. The most famous and easily accessible one is Jhar-Deo-Bandh about 5 km from Titilagarh on the way to Belgaon. Every January 1988,1971,1992,1995 Matric batch picnics are held here. Budhakata - some 03+ km from Titlagarh towards SagadGhat Belkhandi - some 20+ km from Titilagarh on the banks of river Tel. Mathanpala- about 14+ km from Titilagarh is a spot accessible by bikes only. An irrigation water reservoir but a very nice place for picnic. Dumerbahal - around 20+ km from the town on the way to Saintala.Badmal is also a good place near Titilagarh. Satbahani - around 10 km.from Titlagarh
