The District of Tirana (Albanian: Rrethi i Tiranës) is one of the thirty-six districts of Albania, part of Tirana County. It has a population of 717,426[2] (2010 estimate), and an area of 1,238 km². It is in the centre of the country, and its capital is Tirana. The district consists of the following municipalities:

Tirana District Region

Under a special constitutional dispensation, the Regional Council of Tirana has been formed as a local governing body. The council is in the heart of Tirana, which is called the Tirana District Region and covers an area of 33 km2. It is delimited by the Durres District, Dibër District, Fier District, Elbasan District and the Adriatic Sea. This region with Mediterranean climate (mild winter and hot summer) has amazing beaches on the Adriatic coast in the vicinity of Kavaja and is also famous for its Mediterranean flora and fauna. The district has a population of 887,567 of which 75% is urban and 25% is rural.[3]
