Tilak Nagar (Delhi)
Tilak Nagar (Hindi: तिलक नगर, Punjabi: ਤਿਲਕ ਨਗਰ, Urdu: تِلک نگر), Delhi is a suburban area in West Delhi, India. It is approximately seventeen kilometers from the New Delhi Railway Station and twenty-two kilometers from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Tilak Nagar is connected by the Delhi Metro to Connaught Place, making it easy for commuters to reach. It is quite popular for its market, offering a wide variety of products such as branded clothing and consumer durables. Most famous for Punjabi marriage rituals items (like Chura, Lawan Suit, Pagri, kangna, and currency garland etc.)
Tilak Nagar Vidhan Sabha Constituency elections of 2013 thrown shocking results as for entire Delhi. From here Jarnail Singh, a candiate from newly formed Aam Aadmi Party after defeating BJP candidate and this was a BJP fortress for decades.
Tilak Nagar consists essentially of pishori Sikhs and Rawalpindi Sikhs (post-independence migrants from Rawalpindi and Peshawar now in Pakistan) and Punjabi Hindus. Areas such as Vishnu Garden, Chand Nagar, Chowkhandi, Ashok Nagar (Delhi), Fateh Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Virender Nagar, Shahpura, Sant Nagar, and Mukherji Park make up the constituency. Its landmark is a Gurdwara, which is in the 20th block of Tilak Nagar. Tilak Nagar also has an Industrial Area near Khayalla.
The area supports two hospitals among multiple medical facilities and pharmacies. There is also a popular shopping area.
The Resident Welfare Association of Tilak Nagar East won the GLORY OF DELHI award in a programme organised by Times of India. Mr. Anil Khanna, President and Mr. J.P.S. Jolly (Jolly Uncle - famous Hindi writer) Sr. Vice President received this award on behalf of the association.
