Thornton-Cleveleys is an unparished area (and former urban district), currently in the English local government district of Wyre, Lancashire, covering the towns of Thornton and Cleveleys. It forms part of the Blackpool Urban Area.

The civil parish of Thornton became an urban district in 1900, and was renamed Thornton-Cleveleys in 1927.[1]

On 1 April 1974, the urban district became part of the Borough of Wyre. Thornton-Cleveleys corresponds with six wards of the borough.

According to the 2001 census Thornton-Cleveleys has a population of 31,157. The population of the individual borough council wards was recorded as:

  • Bourne: 6,121
  • Cleveleys Park: 5,994
  • Jubilee: 4,186
  • Norcross: 3,738
  • Staina: 5,267
  • Victoria: 5,851[2]

Sport

Thornton-Cleveleys is home to Thornton-Cleveleys RUFC who play rugby in the RFU Northern Division, North Lancs 1. Their home ground is the YMCA sport center in Thornton.


Thornton-Cleveleys FC and Norcross & Warbreck FC play football in The West Lancashire Football League, both side's home pitches are based in Thornton.

Fylde Flyers Ice Hockey Team are based in the SubZero Leisure Ice Rink (opened in 2011), Jubilee Park, Thornton-Cleveleys, and play in the EIHA North Division 2.
