Thomas Docherty (born 28 January 1975) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dunfermline and West Fife since 2010.[2]

Thomas Docherty was elected as the Member of Parliament for Dunfermline and West Fife in the May 2010 General Election with a 5,470 majority. He lives in Dunfermline with his wife Katie and their children. Prior to being elected Docherty was an Account Director with a communications consultancy, having previously worked for Network Rail, BNFL and as a research assistant to Scott Barrie, the former MSP for Dunfermline West.

In Westminster he has taken a keen interest in defence issues and was a notable voice throughout the Strategic Defence and Security Review. He is a member of a number of influential committees in Parliament, notably the Defence Select Committee, the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee and the Administration Select Committee. In addition Docherty is the member of several all party groups, including the all party group on atomic and nuclear veterans. Docherty is also Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Bahrain and Treasurer of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Clean Coal. In the recent reshuffle of the opposition front bench he was appointed to the Treasury team as PPS to Angela Eagle MP, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

In 2011, he was a member of the special Select Committee set up to scrutinise the Bill that became the Armed Forces Act 2011.[3] He was also a member of the Public Bill Committee for the Defence Reform Bill.[4]

To date he has spoken in 71 debates and received answers to 72 written questions – above average amongst MPs. In November the Sunday Mail named Docherty as the second hardest working new Scottish MP.
