Thoirette is a commune in the Jura department in the Franche-Comté region of eastern France.[1] The area was mentioned as early as the 12th century and is the diminutive of the name Thoire.[1]

Thoirette is the birthplace of the famous anatomist Marie François Xavier Bichat, whose house still exists in the older part of town.[2]

Demographics

As of the census of 1999, the population was 543. The estimate for 2005 was 617.
