Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan (Malayalam:തിരുവഞ്ചൂര്‍ രാധാകൃഷ്ണന്‍ ) (born 26 Dec 1949) is an Indian politician.[1] From 13 April 2012 to 1 January 2014 he was the Home Minister in Oommen Chandry Ministry, Government of Kerala.[2] He was holding the Vigilance Portfolio, handed over from the current Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.[citation needed] He has handed over the charges of Home Ministry to Ramesh Chennithala from 1 January 2014 and taken the Forest, Transport, Sports, Cinema & Environment portfolios.[3]

Personal life

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan was born to K. P. Parameswaran Pillai and M. G. Gourikutty on 26 December 1949 at Thiruvanchoor, Kottayam, Travancore Cochin, India. He has completed B.A and Bachelor of Law (L.L.B) degrees. Radhakrishnan got married to Lalithambika.Lalitha worked as a cashier in Punjab National Bank.The couple has two sons Dr. Anupam Radhakrishnan & Arjun Radhakrishnan & a daughter Athira Radhakrishnan.Anupam Radakrishnan is an aerospace engineer.Arjun got married to Vindu Anupam who worksas a chemical engineer. Arjun completed his B.Tech from Saint Gits College of Engineering & later pursued his masters in Thermal Fluids from Rochester Institute of Technology Newyork. He got married to Gopika Sajeev on 1 December 2013. Athira is an engineering graduate from Mar Athanasius College of Engineering Kothamangalam & got married to Sandeep on 18 November 2012.Both are working in Infosys America.[4]

Political Life

Thiruvanchoor entered public service as a student activist, through Balajanasakhyam, KSU and Youth Congress, rising to become the leader of various youth organizations. Thiruvanchoor, at different times, held many important positions within KSU, Youth Congress and KPCC. Some of them include:

He was elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006 from Adoor and currently represents Kottayam Constituency. He also served as the General Secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee(I).
