Thibodaux High School (THS) is a public high school serving students in grades 9–12 in Thibodaux, Louisiana, USA about 75 miles southwest of New Orleans. It is one of three high schools in the Lafourche Parish Public Schools district.[2]

History

The school was established in the late 19th century or early 20th century at the site that is currently Thibodaux Elementary School. Later it moved a block away to the current site of East Thibodaux Middle School. In 1967, the student body was moved to the current location at the corner of Talbot Ave. and Tiger Dr. In 2002, 9th grade students were added to the campus.

Curriculum

The school day lasts from 7:27am to 2:25pm and consists of seven 53-minute periods.

The current school-wide plans for professional growth include a greater focus on literacy across the curriculum, including implementing additional literacy strategies as indicated in the state's comprehensive curriculum.

Also, in an effort to assist students in their academic development, Thibodaux High offers Grade Recovery, where students may retest if they score between 50% and 74%; Attendance Recovery for excessive absences; and Credit Recovery for failed courses.

School spirit

Alma Mater

The words of the school's Alma Mater were written by Juanita Folse with music by Blanche Lasseigne, 1950 graduates.[7]

In all thy halls resound the stories
Sweet echoes of a day that's gone
Hailing praises of thy glories
And laurels that were not made known.
Alma Mater, we do praise thee
For thy past and present too.
We shall never be disloyal
To the school that's tried and true.
All thy work which liveth after
Has been done full faithfully.
And the spirit here within us
Makes us e'er a part of thee.

Fight song

The fight song is sung to the tune "Hey Look Me Over". The words were written in 1960 by Carolyn Leigh and composed by Cy Coleman.[8]

Hey fighting tigers,
Fight all the way.
Hey fighting tigers
Win this game today.
You've got the know how, you're doing fine,
Hang on to the ball as you hit the wall
and smash right through the line.
You've got to go for a touchdown,
Run up the score,
Make the mighty tigers
Stand right up and roar.
Fight with all of your might
As you win tonight
And we'll supply the rest,
For it's 'Victory: THS'.
T - I - G - E - R - S
TIGERS!
