The Vamps are a British pop rock band formed in 2012.[1][2] The band signed to Mercury Records in late 2012 and supported McFly on their Memory Lane Tour in early 2013.[3] They have also been performing at several festival-style events around the UK as supporting acts for several different acts including The Wanted, JLS, Little Mix and Lawson.[4]

On 29 September 2013, The Vamps released their debut single "Can We Dance", which debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart.[5] Their second single "Wild Heart" was released on 18 January 2014. Their debut studio album will be released later in 2014.[6]

History

2011–12: Formation

In 2011, James McVey, who was already managed by Richard Rashman and Joe O'Neill of Prestige Managemen, wanted to form a band. He subsequently discovered Bradley Simpson via YouTube. Simpson later became lead singer and together McVey and Simpson wrote songs towards the later months of 2011. In 2012, Simpson and McVey met Tristan Evans via Facebook. The trio then found Connor Ball from a friend of a friend.[7] In mid-2012, the band started uploading covers of other songs via their YouTube channel.[citation needed]

2013–present: Breakthrough

In January 2013, it was confirmed that The Vamps would be supporting McFly on tour in April–May 2013.[3] On 22 July 2013, the band uploaded their first original song, "Wildheart" (later retitled "Wild Heart"), onto their YouTube account.[8] The video received over 46,000 views within the first two days.[9] On 6 August, they released the music video for their debut single "Can We Dance". It received over 1 million views within the first two weeks.[10]

The band supported Selena Gomez at London's Hammersmith Apollo on 7 and 8 September 2013.[11] "Can We Dance" was released on 29 September and debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart on 6 October, just held off the top spot by OneRepublic's "Counting Stars"[5] which sold just 1,250 copies more.[12] On 22 November, The Vamps announced that their second single would be "Wild Heart".[13] The song received its first airplay on Capital FM three days later[14] and was released on 19 January 2014, peaking at number three the following week.

The Vamps will also be supporting Taylor Swift on the London leg of her Red Tour in February 2014 at The O2 Arena,[15] followed by The Wanted on the UK and Ireland leg of their Word of Mouth Tour from 14 March to 1 April.[16]

The band said in November 2013 that they would release their debut album "around Easter".[17]
