"The Moneymaker" is the second single from Los Angeles-based indie rock band Rilo Kiley's fourth album Under the Blacklight. The song has a strong funk influence, with Pierre de Reeder's bass taking a prominent role. The lyrics are almost certainly about sex, if not prostitution or the adult industry, in keeping with the album's theme of showing the "sketchy side" of Los Angeles. The song samples The Cars' Moving in Stereo. In 2009, the song was featured in a Carl's Jr. commercial and 90210 (29 September 2009; Season 2, Episode 4).[1]
Music video
The music video for "The Moneymaker" opens with brief clips of interviews (apparently conducted by Jenny Lewis) with pornographic actors Tommy Gunn, Faye Runaway, and Hailey Young. Along with the band, these three are featured in the video, where they interact in what is best described as a sexually charged manner.
