Thammampatti is a Town Panchayat in Gangavalli taluk of Salem district in the state of Tamil Nadu Thammampatti is situated between Pachamalai and the Kolli Hills. The river Swetha flows through the town and joins the river Vasista to form the river Vellar, which empties into the Bay of Bengal at Port Novo.

As of the [http://censusindia.gov.in/PopulationFinder/View_Village_Population.aspx?pcaid=3865&category=T.P. Census India 2011], Thammampatti has a voter population of 20,751 with 5205 houses. The literacy rate is 66%, with a male literacy rate of 74% and a female literacy rate of 58%. The main industry in the area is agriculture, especially cultivation of tapioca.

Thammampatti is also famous for jallikattu next to famous jallikattu locations like Alanganallur, Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu

Temples in the Town

Two famous temples are located in Thammampatti. One is the Kashi Vishwanathar Aalayam, where the river Swetha flows as like, Ganges flow in Varanasi. In this temple the Aavudayar is in square shape which is very rare to find elsewhere. History says that, Pancha Pandavas visited Thammampatti (Ancient name - Dharuma Nagar) and had holy water in river Swetha. After about five generations, this temple underwent Kumbhabhishekam. Second is Sri Ukra Khadali Narasimha Swamy temple, which is around 600 years old. This temple underwent kumbhabhishekam in 2008. There is also a mountain named (Thirumankaradu) located in the north end of Thammampatti having temples of great three religions- Lord Murugan, a Church and a Mosque situated together symbolizing the unity of people from different religions. Also there were many small village deities situated around the village named Ettadiyan, Periyasamy, Mariamman, Selliyamman, Ayyanaar. Sri Kanyakaparameswari Amman (Vasavi) Temple and festival of chitra pournami,navarathri and sriramanavami and Jamia Masjid are situated in Bazaar Street which praises the unity of the people. The village is surrounded under the foot of Kolli Hills in the West and Green Hills in the East.

This city is famous for Tapioca (Kuchikizhangu) farming having more than 50 processing mills and acres of fields.

Wood Carving

Wood carving is another major occupation of the residents of the town that has been passed down through generations. These are also exported to countries like Burma, Sri Lanka, Maldives etc.
