Texas elections, 2014

A general election will be held in the U.S. state of Texas on November 4, 2014. All of Texas' executive officers are up for election as well as a United States Senate seat, and all of Texas' thirty-six seats in the United States House of Representatives. Primary elections will be held on March 4, 2014 for offices that need to nominate candidates. Primary runoffs, if necessary, will be held on May 27, 2014.

Governor

Incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry, who has served in the office since December 21, 2000, when George W. Bush resigned ahead of being sworn-in as President of the United States, has announced that he will not run for a fourth full term as Governor. This will be the first open election for Governor since 1990, when Ann Richards was elected.

Republicans Greg Abbott,[1] Lisa Fritsch,[2] Larry Kilgore[3] and Miriam Martinez[4] and Democrats Wendy Davis[5] and Ray Madrigal[6] and Libertarians Gene Chapman,[7] Kathie Glass[8] and R. Lee Wrights[9] and Robert Bell [10][11] have declared their candidacies.

Lieutenant Governor

Incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is running for re-election to an unprecedented fourth term in office.
