The website TestFreaks is a review site launched in Sweden in 2007, in several different languages. The United States site was also launched in 2007. The commercial headquarters are in Stockholm, Sweden. It allows users to read reviews and compare prices of a wide range of products. Both expert / professional and user reviews are aggregated from thousands of sources in many different languages using an advanced backend system.[1]

History

TestFreaks was launched in 2007 by former Founders of PriceRunner, Kristofer Arwin, Magnus Wiberg, and Martin Alexanderson. Northzone an investor in PriceRunner also invested in TestFreaks.[2][3][4]

Every product is assigned a FreakScore that is calculated with an algorithm that factors things such as the age of the product and when each review was written. It also puts different weight on different sources, e.g. if cNet or HowStuffWorks has reviewed a product and rated it 10 out of 10 that will impact the FreakScore.[5]

In 2011 TestFreaks launched a badge product [6] allowing retailers to include product scores, pros and cons and review snippets directly onto their product and category listings pages. In a short time more than 100 retailers adopted the system which is also capable of collecting reviews from customers on the site and through post-purchase emails. TestFreaks currently aggregates reviews from around 15,000 sources including both expert and user opinions. In 2012 an API was launched to provide similar content which could sit alongside existing tabs. A full XML feed solution is also available.

TestFreaks not only aggregates reviews on the main site but they do their own 'in-house' reviews of products as well. Since 2008 a small staff of writers has been doing in-depth and detailed reviews of products on the TestFreaks Blog. On the blog you'll find not only product reviews of items ranging from consumer electronics like cell phones and tablets and their accessories to PC related products like cases and coolers but also games and software for both PC and Mac mixed in. The reviews done though are primarily Mobile, PC and Apple related items and assorted peripherals and accessories for them. The blog also has daily postings of gadget, consumer electronic and general consumer technology related news.
