Tekkali is a Town, Revenue Division and a Mandal in Srikakulam district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.[1]

Tekkali is also called Raghunathapuram in memory of Raghunath Deo, an ancient proprietor of the Tekkali estate.

Geography

Tekkali is located at 18°37′00″N 83°14′00″E / 18.6167°N 83.2333°E / 18.6167; 83.2333.[2] It has an average elevation of 27 meters (91 feet).

Transport

The nearest Airport is the Visakhapatnam_Airport, which is at a distance of 150 km. NH-5(chennai-kolkata) passes through the town. It is well connected with the nearest towns of nandigam, palasa, meliaputti, chapara, sompeta, mandasa, kaviti, itchapuram, narasannapeta, pathapatnam, paralakhemundi and the district capital srikakulam. Tekkali is 50 km distance from srikakulam.

There is a Railway station in the tekkali but only one train from Gunupur to Puri passes through it. The another nearest railway station at Nupada Jn.(NWP), on Visakhapatnam to Howrah track. Naupada Jn. is 4 km from the tekkali and has frequent transport facility.

Demography

According to The Imperial Gazetteer of India[3] Tekkali in 1901 was a Zamindari tahsil in Ganjam district of Madras province. It lies on the coast of Bay of Bengal with an area of 275 square miles. The population was 124,626 compared with 115,553 in 1891. The tahsil consists of Tekkali town and about 350 villages. Tekkali town with a population of 7,557 is situated on the puri-paralakhemundi broad gauge railway.

  • Tekkali is connected with puri-paralakhemundi branch broad gauge railway line. Nearest mainline station is Naupada Junction and people prefer Naupada Junction station for catching long distance trains.

  • Telineelapuram village near Tekkali has famous bird sanctuary. Many pelican birds from Siberia visit Telineelapuram area every year.
  • Area Hospital, Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad is located at Tekkali. It has a bed strength of 100 in-patients.[4]

  • Ravivalasa is famous for Sri Endala Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple.
  • There is a famous SAI BABA temple in the village called devapuram which is 15 km from tekkali
  • Radhavallabhapuram, a well educationally developed village in tekkali mandal is the smallest panchayat in the district of srikakulam.
  • There is a famous Lingaraja swamy temple in the village called Lingalavalasa which is 9 km from tekkali.
  • Lingalavalasa (Sorligam) village near tekkali is famous for Blue Granite stones.
  • Jallapalli, a well agriculturally developed village in nandigam and tekkali mandal is the second smallest panchayat in the district of srikakulam. Which is 7 km from Tekkali. It is very peaceful location. Recently it is being developed in education also.
  • Jayakrishnapuram village one km to tekkali has a rama temple.
  • Jiyyannapeta viiage 5 km to tekkali has a famous krishna temple.
