Tejaswini Pandit (born Tejaswini Ranjit Pandit on 23 May 1986) is a Marathi film & television actress. She started her career by playing a negative role in Aga Bai Arrecha movie Directed by Kedar Shinde. She gained popularity as one of the talented actress in Marathi film industry by playing some heart touching roles in movies like 'Vavtal' & Mee Sindhutai Sapkal[1] and has since appeared in Marathi films, theater, television shows and has established herself as one of Marathi cinema's leading actresses.
Tejaswini won numerous major awards[2] in her initial phase of career, including Best Actor Female in MIFTA 2011[3]London, Best Actress award in Spain International Film Festival 2011 and nomination for 'Best Performance by an Actress' in Asia Pacific Screen Awards held in Australia 2010. In addition to films, Tejaswini has worked in Television shows[4] and received accolades for the same. 'Ekach Hya Janami Janu'[5]& 'Kalay Tasmai Namah' are her current ongoing projects on television.
Biography & Early Life
Tejaswini Pandit was born in a traditional close-knit Gaud Saraswat Brahmin Maharashtrian family in Pune. In Pune she attended Muktangan School. She loved playing volleyball and basketball which were her favorite sports during school. She is very fond of pets specially dogs.
She is the youngest daughter of Ranjit & Jyoti Pandit. Her mother Jyoti Pandit well known as Jyoti Chandekar in Marathi film industry has also contributed to Marathi films and theaters. Jyoti Chandekar has done numerous Marathi theater shows, movies and received many prestigious awards in her career. Her parents never thought that Tejaswini will do wonders and were more inclined towards her elder sister to be in acting career.
Like her mother Tejaswini Pandit also received numerous honors for her heart touching acting skills in a very early phase of her career.
Film career
She started her career of acting/modeling through print advertisements. Her first project was with IME Pune for the Kirloskar Group where she was seen with Ankush Choudhary. Her first break in Marathi movie was given by Kedar Shinde with the help of Shubangi Gokhale who referred her name for the role. She played a negative role in Aga Bai Arrecha movie Directed by Kedar Shinde.
After that she got an opportunity to work with her mother & well known actor Ashok Samarth for the theatre play 'Rakheli'. It was Ashok who gave her a second and promising break in movie 'Vavtal in which she played a role of a woman who is living a normal life and accidentally gets trapped with terrorist group. She was also seen with Amruta Khanvilkar along with other actors in Marathi movie 'GAIIR'. She gained popularity as one of the talented actress in Marathi film industry by playing heart touching role in movie Mee Sindhutai Sapkal Directed by Anant Mahadevan based on a real story. Mee Sindhutai Sapkal is a very special movie for Tejaswini as this is the first time when she got the opportunity to work with her mother. Her mother is seen in this movie playing older 'Sindhutai'. The well known fact is that during the audition Anant Mahadevan was little bit worried due to the fair complexion and colored eyes of Tejaswini.
Her upcoming movies are 'Mukti'[6] which is based on Farmer suicide cases in Maharashtra and 'Bluff Master' where she will be seen opposite to Ankush Choudhary who plays different characters in the movie.
She is also working on an untitle project[7] by Mangesh Kanthale starring opposite Actor Piyush Ranade.
Television career
She has done several TV shows in Marathi. Her first television break as a lead actress was 'Tuzha Ni Mazha Ghar Shrimantacha' as Kaveri on Star Pravah. After that she played a character role in another Marathi TV show called 'Lajja' on Zee Marathi. She has also played disabled girl in Zee Marathi (Ekach Hya Janami Janu) opposite to Piyush Ranade. Tejaswini is now busy with her current television projects on ETV Marathi (Kalay Tasmai Namah)with Vikram Gokhale, Naresh Bidkar, Lokesh Gupte, Amol Kolhe.
Awards and Recognitions
Apart from Spain International Film Festival[8] 2011 held in Spain and other competitive awards which Tejaswini won for her performances throughout the years, she has been awarded several honours for her achievements in the Marathi film industry. She is the first Marathi film industry actress who got nominated in Asia Pacific Screen Awards[9] in 2010 held in Australia. - Awarded Zee Gaurav Award 2013 'Best Supporting Actress' for her play "Vaishali Cottage".
- Nominated as "Best Actress" for "Kalaya Tasmai Namah" TV serial and "Best Supporting Actress" for play "Vaishali Cottage" in Sanskrutik Kaladarpan Awards 2013.
- Received MIFTA 2011 held in London. Received "Best Performance by an Actress" award in Spain International Film Festival 2011.
- Received ‘Lakshvedhi Chehra’ award from Zee Gaurav Puraskar 2011. Won Maharashtracha Favorite Kaun award & Lokmat Times award in 2011.
- Honoured by Pune Gaurav Puraskar 2010, Pune as an upcoming star of the year from Human Rights Association, Pune.
- Winner of the "Best Performance by an Actress Award" by Maharashtra Times Sanman 2009, Mumbai for the film "Vavtal".
- Honoured by Swami Vivekanand Award 2011 for superior work & valuable contribution in Marathi Film industry, Pune.
Personal Life
Tejaswini tied the knot with her childhood sweetheart Bhushan Bopche on 16 December 2012. [10]
