Ted Cutting

Edward John 'Ted' Cutting (11 October 1926 22 March 2012) was a British automotive engineer. He designed the Aston Martin DBR1, winner of the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans.[1]

Cutting was born in Clapham, London and educated at Kingston Technical School. He began his career as a draughtsman with the KLG spark plug company. In 1946 he joined the Allard Motor Company and in 1949 moved to Aston Martin.

Cutting was responsible for the design of a series of legendary Aston Martin cars including the DBR1, DBR2 and DBR4.

After leaving Aston Martin in the early 1960s, he joined the Glacier Bearing Company designing large bearings for steam turbines.

In 1966 he joined the Ford Motor Company as a design engineer, remaining with the company until his retirement in 1985.
