Tariq Anwar (politician)

Tariq Anwar (Urdu: طارق اںور) (born 16 January 1951) is the general secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party of India. On October 28, 2012, he was appointed Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing of the Government of India.[1]

He is presently a Member of the Parliament of India representing Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He has been Member of Lok Sabha several times from Katihar Parliamentary Constituency. His political career started from Congress Party, as a student leader he was very popular. He contested his first Lok Sabha election from Katihar Parliamentary constituency on a Congress ticket in 1977 which he lost. But he managed to win the 1980 Lok Sabha Election from Katihar. He has been the National President of Indian Youth Congress. His mentor was Sitaram Kesri.
