Tantum (in Cape Verdean Creole, written in ALUPEC: Tantun), is a small settlement located in the southwest corner of the Brava, Cape Verde. Tantum is one of the southernmost settlements in Cape Verde. The area around Tantum are surrounded by mountains to the east and west and farmlands are in the valley areas with a small field. The settlement is linked with a poor dirt linking to nearby Campo Baixo as well as Nova Sintra and the rest of the island. A small dry stream flows near Campo Baixo. The living standards are one of the lowest in Cape Verde and income is nearly at the lowest range, one time, there were no money until the late-20th century. Residents lives in small mud and brick made houses. The village has great importance. The entire population are farmers and are based in agriculture where banana plantations, pineapple and other crops are common. However, much of the needy materials comes from the island capital and the diaspora. But for other needs, electricity, communications and appliances are not available in the area as well as phone lines in which the nearest payphone or cardphone is in Nova Sintra do Monte.
Tantum is primarily famous for its panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and several mountains to the south. The settlement since 2005 contains photographs of the entire settlement, about five photos can be seen as well as from the plane on Mindelo Infos at mindelo.info and is only in French.
