The Tanintharyi Nature Reserve is a nature reserve located in the Tenasserim Hills, Burma, further north from the Tanintharyi National Park in the border area with Thailand, limiting with the Kaeng Krachan National Park. It is governed by the Burma Forest Department and the level of protection is partial. The demarcation is in course. The altitudes within the reserve range from 20 to 1,300 m. Tourists are not allowed within the nature reserve.
The main purposes of the reserve are habitat conservation, scientific research and education. The typical habitat is tropical evergreen forest which covers 75% of the area; the remaining is mixed deciduous forest with bamboo clumps as well as grassland. The endangered Gurney's Pitta, endemic to Thailand and Myanmar, is found within this reserve.[1]
