Tando Adam Khan
Tando Adam (Urdu: ٹنڈو آدم) (Sindhi: ٽنڊو آدم) is a town in Sindh, Pakistan. The city is also called Daran Jo Shehar (درن جو شهر), because it had eight gates in different places. It was in the Nawab Shah District (now known as Shaheed Benazir Abad District) until 1955, after which it was in the Sanghar District. This city was founded by Mir Adam Khan Mari. In Balochi, Tando means "cantonment".
Tando Adam is known for its industries and its agriculture; crops raised nearby include sugar cane, wheat, bananas, and mangoes.
Overview
Tando Adam has a number of ancient sites, including mosques and Hindu temples. One of the oldest temples, now occupied by the Dr. Ziaduddin Government Primary School, dates to the 16th century. The shrine of the poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai is 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) from Tando Adam. and the heroes of 21st centuray Ali Hassan KaimKhani and Ali Hyder Qaim Khani were also situated there for some time and now they are at tando allahyar
Economic activity
The town has many emerging/established industries including Faisal Flour Mills, Faisal Cotton Ginning and Pressing Factory, Mian cotton factory, Jugnu Match, Jugnu cotton ginning, cotton seed oil mill like Bhatti oil mill(35 year old), New Bhatti Oil Mills, Bakhtawar Oil and Flour Mills and 14 similar oil mills in the city. Ismail jee is considered to be the trade hub of the district. Tando Adam has the biggest power loom industry in Pakistan. Besides this, numerous fruit juice, paper products, cotton ginning and cottage industries also contribute to the national exchequer. Tando Adam is an economic center for District Sanghar. There was a textile mill and Fazal Flour Mill. Tanveer Textile Mill was founded in 1954 by Mehboob Elahi and Muhammad Sadiq Maghoon, from Chiniot.This mill become totally sick in 1982 and thereafter slowly it ended. Its labour mostly was from Bangla Road, Joharabad (Formerly known as Jatia Para). There are 20+ Cotton ginning factories. Also Telecommunication industry is playing a vital role in the economic condition of Tando Adam, all telecommunication franchises have offices in Tando Adam such as Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid and Zong. Wajid saleem & Muhammad Faizan Shaikh from Warid Telecom is an asset of company. Even the Travelling and Tourism industry is flourishing now at Tando Adam since Mirza Ahmer Baig (usually called as Mirza) opened the very first office of Mirza Travels and Tours (Pvt.) Ltd. in the year 1996. After that, many followers tried to copy the business acumen of Mirza and this industry developed within no time.
Tando Adam also contains many educational institutions such as Sir Syed Children Academy High School, the very first English Medium school of the city established in 1992, New Ali Garh Govt. College, Government Girls Degree College, Sir Syed Government High School and Haji Roshan Din Boys & Girls High Schools. Tando Adam is also very famous for offering traditional foods including "sajji" which is exported to all over the world. Besides sajji, Badayoon Peraa of Hafiz is also popular nationwide even the guests from neighbouring countries request to taste the legendary Peraas, having real taste of Badayoon, India. It is a fact that such tasty Badayoon Peraas are not available anywhere in Pakistan. "Barfi"(known as "maawa") and "lassi" of Mastana are few other specialities of Tando Adam which is known for its unique taste which is barely found some where else in Pakistan. Both Hafiz and Mastana are active in this business since 1950. Dogar Cloth Store is the most popular cloth shop of the city and is owned by Jaffar Dogar (died 19th of Feb 2013) and his sons for almost 25 years. This shop especially has great variety of sindhi traditional Ajrak. The New Addition in Tando Adam is Sick Children Clinic (A totally Free medical Facility for Sick Children) at M.A Jinnah Road founded by Ahmed, Imran Alvi and Brothers in January 2014.
The major business areas are linked with Muhammad Ali (M.A) Jinnah Road. Muhammadi Chowk is the transit hub for proceeding to Hyderabad via national highway.
Population
The population is 92% Muslim, 6% Hindu, and 2% Christian. Ethnically, 50% are Sindhi, 30% are Muhajir, 10% are Punjabi, 8% are Pashtun, and 2% are of other ethnicities. The Muhajirs and Punjabis arrived in the area following the 1947 partition of British India into India and Pakistan. The official language of the city is Urdu; other languages spoken include Sindhi, Siraiki, Balochi, Pashto, Punjabi, and Marwari Qaimkhani. Many people speak Sindhi because the people , who came in local markets can only speak Sindhi. Negotiation become easier between buyer and seller. Sindhi is a medium of communication.
In 1947, there were only 7,000 residents; by 2012, the population had increased to 123,261. Tando Adam is the tenth-largest city of Sindh, and the 54th-biggest of Pakistan. The area of the city is 16 square kilometres (6.2 sq mi).
Culture
Tando Adam has produced so many vocalists, actors, film director and artists. This city is known for 3 reason one RAAN ( called Saji) and Ustad Manzoor Ali Khan. Saji is signature food items of the city. Ustad Manzoor Ali Khan is the only singer from Sindhi Music who received pride of performance award from Government of Pakistan. He simplified Sindhi Kaafi ( Sufi verses) into simplified form with a fusion of classical music. He worked on so may Sindhi Ragas with highest level of expertise. His services for Sindhi Music has made him a legend in Sindhi Music History. His work was followed by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in national and international level. We people from Tando Adam very proud of him. His family members still live in Tando Adam City.His Son in law who was also born in Tando Adam, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, has been conferred with Pride of Performance and Sitara-e- Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan. His other Son in law, Mr. Piaro Khan has remained SDM of Tando Adam and caused so many civic problems of the city with keen interest. Tando adam is a city of peace and it is well known for the hafiz badaiyoon peraas, halwa poori, milk and barfi of mastana and chaat of jumman jatti.The Lohar Galli famous for it's sweet makers and samosa makers, this street 250 meters long and 3 meters wide and is the one of the oldest streets of city once upon a time there were Lohars (blacksmiths).
