Taldykorgan (Kazakh: Талдықорған / Taldıqorğan / تالدىقورعان), formerly known as Taldy-Kurgan (Russian: Талды-Курган, until 1993), is the administrative center of Almaty Province, Kazakhstan. Population: 123,038 (2009 Census results);[1] 97,996 (1999 Census results).[1] Most of the people are Kazakhs.
Education
Taldykorgan has a diverse educational system, including a university, institutes, institutions, technical training colleges, secondary schools and kindergartens. There are 27 public health facilities, a theater, amusement parks, libraries, a city cinema, stadium, sports complex and swimming pools. All of the facilities have not been maintained since the USSR era. [2]

The ethnic composition of Taldykorgan according to a 2010 census was thus:[3][4]

- Russians - 36,532 people (25.47%)
- Koreans - 5,172 people (3.61%)
- Tatars - 2,783 people (1.94%)
- Germans - 1,581 people (1.10%)

Transport
Taldykorgan has an airport that services a number Kazakh and Russian cities, while its train station services from 30 km from Taldykorgan Central Kazakhstan, Central Asia, Russia, Baltic States and the People's Republic of China.
Sport
The city has a football club, FC Zhetysu Taldykorgan.[5][6]

- Sergey Vodopyanov (born 1987) - Russian amateur boxer, winner gold in bantamweight Class at the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships.
- Alibek Buleshev(born 1981) - Kazakhstanian football forward.
- Gottlieb Wladimir (born 1942) - Ph.D, Associate Professor in Lviv Institute of Physical Education (Ukraine), Master of sport (swimming). Now he lives in Germany.
- Mirat Sarsembayev (born 1986) - amateur boxer from Kazakhstan, best known for winning the flyweight bronze at the 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships.
- Victor Sydorenko (born 1953) - painter, curator, teacher, an author of objects and photocompositions and also scientific and publicistic texts, member and the vice-president of Ukrainian Academy of Arts.
