Talbehat
Talbehat' is a small city and a nagar panchayat in Lalitpur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Talbehat had a population of 32,664. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Talbehat has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 58%. In Talbehat, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age. The town is located next to a major highway 26 and main line of Delhi & Bombay train route. There is also one Degree college and kendriya vidayala up to 12th.
Talbehat has very few trains which stop, so ideally best would be to either board or alight any long distance train from Lalitpur or Jhansi and then travel the distance from these stations via road on NH 26 (four lane) (which connects North India to South India)
Thats the beauty of the Talbehat. There are many important things to do around here, such as The famous Matatila dam (is now on UP tourism radar for developing a beach head and a restaurant in the middle of the dam),Pawagir ji Jain temple, Deva Mata Temple, Talbehat fort, Boat Club and beautiful Mansarovar lake. There is a army Cant cantonment here as well and the army people are very friendly and helpful. The area has a very outbackish landscape. Stony ridges descending towards the Betwa river valley. The struggle for the regions poor is really heart breaking, Scanty rainfall, apathy from the MP and UP govt has lef the people in lurch. Bundelkhand region as its popularly called encompasses Gwalior, Jabalpur, Tikamgarh, Khajuraho (all in MP) and Lalitpur, Talbehat, Banda Jhansi (UP) want a new state so that development can happen. Being on the border of two states, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, this region never gets any funds for development
A new Rail line, the demand for which started in the 1980s, is finally seeing the light of day. It will connect Lalitpur with thermal power stations of Singrauli coal mines, hopefully generating new jobs.
