History
Taimali was established 1,000 years ago by Qian YaoKao who was ancestor of the Paiwan people. The Qian YaoKao is also called Da Ma race. In Qing Dynasty, due to Da Ma has similar pronunciation to Tai Ma, thus it has been called Taimali by mainland people who moved here. In early 1900s, other aborigines such as the Amis people and Paiwan people were moving continuously to Taimali village. During the Japanese Occupied period in 1940s, there were also some residents from Miaoli, Nantou, Zhanghua, Yunlin, Jiayi, Tainan, Kaoshiung, and Pintung settling in Taimali area.
Due to the increasing population, the Japanese government was established and subordinated Taimali to Taitung. In 1937, it had changed to Taimali Village(庄). After Taiwan retrocede from Japan after the 1945, it changed to Taimali village(村)
The significance could not be traced but might related to the earlier eastern Paiwan people. In the meanwhile, there was a legend from the Paiwan people that said that it was because the sun rises from the eastern sea, thus it had been called - Jabauli (In Paiwan language) which means "the village of sunrise".
