Tactics were a speed/thrash/power metal band originating from Los Angeles, California in 1986. The band was the brainchild of former Abattoir/Bloodlust vocalist Steve Gaines. The band's first recorded appearance was on Metal Blade Records Metal Massacre Volume 8, with the single "Spare No Lives". The full length album The Master Plan, which featured there most prolific lineup of Gaines on bass and vocals, Sin Quirin, and Greg Braun on guitars, and Eddie Livingston on drums, was released in August 1991. Minotauro Records reissued it November 30, 2013 using the title The Re-Mastered Plan.

In 1993 Tactics won the Los Angeles Songwriters Showcase Award (all music, not just metal) For best single "Leave Me Alone" presented by BAM Magazine.
