TV Japan is a 24-hour Japanese-language television channel geared towards the Japanese diaspora in North America. It is the only Japanese TV channel available in the United States and Canada. TV Japan is owned by NHK CosmoMedia America Inc, a company operated by NHK Enterprises, which is a subsidiary of Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai, the leading broadcaster in Japan. It is available on many cable networks in the United States and Canada, and through satellite provider Dish Network.
TV Japan airs various programming from Japan including comprehensive news coverage in both Japanese and English, dramas, movies, children's programs, and entertainment shows. TV Japan also features extensive sports coverage including coverage of the Grand Sumo tournaments, Japanese baseball and J-League soccer matches.

2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami
In response to the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit the Northern area of Japan on the afternoon of March 11, 2011 cable and satellite TV providers across the United States and Canada provided a free-to-air broadcast giving viewers who may have friends and family in Japan with the latest news and information via a live simulcast from parent NHK.
